Then Drive could always be complemented by Starship Piloting when using Drive to fly an air vehicle. So when "driving" a jet, Drive gets a +1 bonus if your Starship Piloting is higher. Drive is never penalized by Starship Piloting if it's lower tho.

Re: One-Sheet Scenario: Orbit Five

Very interesting might try this in a Traveller game!

Re: This is the beginning.

Thanks a lot, Keith! I'm a big sucker for Roman tropes in space.

I agree about the "misfit crew" aspect, but I'd just commented on something very similar in talking about The Abyss, so figured I'd gloss it this time around.

One of the things I enjoyed about Firefly was that it didn't kid around with the Space Western... it went right down to the covered wagons and pretty pink bonnets.

Re: Days of Plunder: Serenity

Hmmmmm Firefly/Serenity also gives us a perfect implementation of the classic SFRPG trope "tramp space freighter filled with assorted misfits eke out an existence on the frontiers of civilisation".

It's also a great demonstration of how to overlay the themes and imagery of one genre onto a completely different one, without straying too far into silliness. Space Opera + Western. I'm doing something similar with the SBA game I'm currently running, which is based on the Hellas RPG setting so it's Space Opera + Sword & Sandals.

Re: Days of Plunder: Serenity

Totally. I don't think the party should be split all the time, but if used judiciously, it can make great tension.

Re: Days of Plunder: Serenity

I like the general RPG conceit of 'Don't Split the Party' and using it as a motivator for the characters by forcing a split. It then isn't about a character wandering off into uncharted plot territory but desperately trying to reconnect with the party. In Serenity splitting the party created those moments of dread, of self-sacrifice, and of glory which every player craves.

Sean D.
